Lohia Charan Singh College, Darbhanga was established in the year 1979 by the social activist, political thinkers, intellectuals, scholars and progressive political leaders of the district. Important among them were “Padmashri” Shri Hukumdev Narayan Yadav ex. Minister of state, govt. of india, Dr. Ram Badan Yadav, ex-vice chancellor of bn mandal university,  Dr. Devi Dutt Poddar, Prof. Phuldeo Yadav, Dr. Vijay Prasad, Prof. Devendra Prasad, Prof. Chotte Lal Roy, Shri Shivaji Yadav, mukhiya, Shri Dineshwar Yadav, mukhiya, Shri Maksudan Yadav, Shri Kalanand Yadav, Shri Ramakant Yadav, pramukh & ex-chairman of DRDA, Shri Laxami Yadav and many more.

Shri Janak Yadav, educationist and social activists, donated the land to establish this degree college at Ambedkar Nagar, Dilabarpur Under Bahardurpur Block of Darbhanga District. The College is situated at the heartland of Darbhanga. Shri Janak Yadav envisioned a dream of establishing a high class/premier educational institution that would mould and guide future generation to achieve better opportunities in life. It was established with a view to provide higher education for the students of rural area. The area of Bahardurpur block was very neglected and called gramin kshetra. This area has a very big population with backward class, other backward class, schedule casts, and minorities.

Shri Vijay Kumar Mishra, the then. M. P. of Darbhanga, Md. Ali Ashraf Fatmi M.P (at that time) of Parliamentary Constituency, Darbhanga, Shri Jagdish Chaudhary MLA (at that time) of gramin kshetra, Darbhanga, had given fund for construction of building for the College.

 Lohia Charan Singh College is an affiliated unit of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga and got the first affiliation from the department of Higher Education, Govt. Of Bihar on 14th February 1985. It was granted permanent affiliation from the department of higher education, Govt. of Bihar on 15th October 1999. 

The College is also registered under section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 vide letter no. F. No. 8-117/2008 (cpp-1) dated 13th May 2009 and our college has also applied for 12(B).

The College imparts both degree and intermediate education to the students across the three faculties i.e Arts, Science and Commerce.

Lohia Charan Singh College, Darbhanga has been made study center of directorate of distance education (D.D.E) L.N.M.U, Darbhanga for graduate and postgraduate courses.

The College has separate Arts, Science and Commerce Blocks, Administrative Block, General Library, Auditorium, and Common Room. The College has adequate classrooms and laboratories which are enough to meet the requirement of the students.

N.S.S Unit of one hundred students is working in our college through the permission of L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga.
